Dear Blog...

I feel like if the whole world really understood our place in this galaxy, in this universe... we would be celebrating our existence instead of trying to destroy it.

If life was easy, we would never appreciate all the beauty that's around us...

Sometimes I wonder why life is such a struggle. We are always told that there are people who have it a lot worse than us, but that doesn't help the current situation that we're facing in the here and now. We all have our sad stories and I don't think it's selfish to feel bad for ourselves once in a while.

I believe that within the known universe we live in, we all live in our own individual, esoteric universes that no one else knows what it's like to live in. We are on our own planes of realities that no one else can relate to unless they "walked a mile in our shoes..."

But this realization also gives me a sense of inner peace because I know that everyone is going through this very same thing. When I think of the famous story of when G-d created the universe and everything that inhabits it and described it as "good", I don't take it to mean that no evil or sickness exists, but that He created a universe with a purpose for existence. Is this fair? Well, how do we even know the meaning of fairness if he did not create the existence of it in the first place? That in itself, is a tragically beautiful thing.

The Fort Hood, Texas tragedy is adding a lot of fuel to the fire on the topic of Muslims vs. other religious faiths and although I'm usually the first to get fired up about Islamic extremism, I refuse to look at this case from a religiously biased point of view. I have to say, that this horrible situation has made me feel at odds with myself when it comes to my opinions on religion and its effect on mental health.

It's easy to know who your enemies are when they look different from you, talk different than you, and pray different than you. But when your own American brother or sister turns against you, all - allegedly - in the name of religion, it makes me wonder... who are our true enemies?

Anytime someone from a minority group does something outrageous, that minority group becomes spotlighted and maybe even blamed (sometimes rightfully so) for their actions. But as Americans, the melting pot of the world, we should know better than to stereotype.

There's never a day that goes by when I don't think about the awesome concept of G-d. To me, G-d means more than just a religious mascot. To me, as long as there is more scientific discoveries to be made, there will always be G-d. As long as time exists, there will always be G-d. Because even though we can define everything that happened in the fossilized past or the foreseen future, we will never know the absolute beginning or end, and that is where I see G-d at work.

For me, Judaism is more than just following a religion, it's following a tradition that has kept a society functioning for longer than any other method, and if that works for G-d, then that works for me.

Since my original blog is not working properly and I've yet to figure out how to fix it, this will be my new home for my blog indefinitely.

Mayor Bloomberg has won another term which is such good news. I believe that he became a mayor for the right reasons and he knows what he's doing. Too bad that's such a rare quality when it comes to politicians.
